What I Offer

Comprehensive Eye Exams for Patients of All Ages

The eye is the most complicated part of the body after the brain. I promise to take the time to thoroughly evaluate your vision and eye health.

I will start by building a picture of your visual life:

  • How you use your eyes at work and home

  • Past eye issues, surgeries, or injuries

  • Family history of glaucoma, macular degeneration, or retinal disease

  • Systemic conditions like diabetes or hypertension

  • Medications that may affect vision

Then I will measure your vision:

  • Digital acuity testing

  • Autorefraction to estimate your prescription with pinpoint accuracy

  • Subjective refraction (the classic “Which is better, 1 or 2?”) refined by decades of clinical intuition

The combination of advanced tech and expert judgment will produce an exceptionally precise prescription.

Next comes the eye health evaluation:

Modern glaucoma evaluation is multi-layered:

  • Gold-standard applanation tonometry for exact measurement

  • Examination of your retina and optic nerves with dilation and / or retinal imaging

As a doctor with 30+ years of experience, I know how to interpret borderline or unusual results with nuance.

This is where state-of-the-art equipment shines:

  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) creates cross-sectional images of the retina, cornea, and optic nerve, revealing microscopic layers

  • Ultra-widefield retinal photography captures up to 200° of the retina in one shot

These tools allow early detection of macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, and more.

Using a high-powered microscope, I can examine tear film quality, look for early signs of cataracts, and detect problems with dryness or infection.

A Personalized Plan ties everything together:

  • Explains findings in clear, practical terms

  • Reviews risks and early warning signs

  • Creates a personalized plan for vision correction, eye health, and long-term monitoring

  • Recommends lifestyle adjustments or preventive strategies

Low Vision Services

Do you or a loved one suffer from reduced vision, even when using glasses or contacts? If so, you may have “LOW VISION”. Low vision refers to vision that cannot be fully corrected by conventional eyewear. Causes of vision loss include eye diseases like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Corneal scars from trauma, hereditary disorders, and keratoconus can also result in vision loss.

I offer LOW VISION SERVICES in the offices of Elizabethtown Eyecare Center. I use magnifiers, electronic devices, telescopes, wearable OCR, and software to help patients make the best use of their remaining vision. I can also provide referrals for services through the Kentucky Dept for the Blind and Independent Living Services. For those who wish to keep or reclaim driving privileges, I provide exams and certification for the Bioptic Driving Program.
